Answers

01. What are the restrictions in importing a used car from Japan?   Go to Top
Vehicles that are fifteen (15) years old or older as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured are allowed to be imported without any restrictions. It is illegal to import newer vehicle and is a criminal offence. Click here to visit Transport Canada web site for more information.

02. Where can I buy spare parts for the imported car?   Go to Top
Most spare parts could be ordered through respective local dealership. There are several companies who regularly import Japanese spare parts including engines and body panels. In the event you have difficulty finding any component for your imported vehicle, we'll be happy to source it directly from Japan.

03. Is it safe, easy and legal to drive a right hand drive (RHD) vehicle?   Go to Top
It is 100% legal to drive a Right hand drive vehicles. There are no special licence or training required to operate a right hand drive vehicle. They are safe to drive provided you take the same precautions driving any other vehicle. It is easy and natural to get used to RHD vehicle. Please read "Left Hand Drive Vs Right Hand Drive" in the "About JDM Cars" page.

04. Why should I consider a JDM vehicle as a better alternative to used cars in Canada?   Go to Top
JDM vehicles are much better alternative to Canadian high mileage and rust prone vehicles. Considering importing a model which has been sold in millions will not make any economic sense, as you could find a low priced used vehicle at your local dealer. But if you want a vehicle with options and engine features which were never offered in Canada, then a well maintained low mileage and rust free JDM vehicle is for you.

Example 1: If you enjoy your current SUV but hate it every time you go to the gas station to fill up, you should definitely consider a Toyota Land Cruiser powered by direct injection turbo diesel. There are several models which comes in small to full size, with different engine options and features. You can expect 6 liters / 100Km for the smaller variant and 10 liters / 100Km for the larger model. Land Cruisers are the best and toughest SUV's ever manufactured and praised by millions all over the world. Easy to maintain, very capable 4x4 & has the highest global reputation with excellent resale value.

Example 2: If you are a contractor or deliver news papers, use a cargo van or pick up truck and average more than 25,000Kms / Yr, then consider to have a vehicle to do the duty and cut at least 50% off your gas bill? Welcome to the ultra durable and fuel efficient diesel powered Toyota HIACE van (available with or without seats) or Toyota Hilux single or double cab. These work mate's are surprisingly affordable and has high resale value. Your money into these vehicles are wise business investment.

Example 3: If you are into sports cars, there are many affordable high performance cars in Japan that are eligible for import. If you are not sure what is available in Japan, please contact us.

05. What is the difference between importing a vehicle myself Vs using your service?   Go to Top
If you know someone in Japan who has a dealer licence, member in all major auction house and trust worthy to transfer your money, you might want to import it yourself. In all other cases for a small service charge you can sit back and relax while we take care of everything from paper work, money transfers, clearing your vehicle at the customs and a complete after sales assistance. Most importantly we let you select exactly what you want from thousands of vehicles, we keep sending vehicle pictures and information until you select the one you like.

06. What are the differences between buying through a importer/dealer Vs your service?   Go to Top

In one word "Savings" and lot of it. A quality importer or a dealer would acquire JDM vehicles through similar auctions. In some cases vehicles are also acquired through un appropriate channels, which you may not know until you take delivery and start noticing issues. A dealer specially one who imports these rare vehicle tend to have very high markup, upwards of $4000 CAD. Dealers best interest is to sell what they have in stock rather than what you want. While we source the vehicle of your choice from the most legitimate, well inspected and certified auction houses.

When a dealer spends money on service and reconditioning, ultimately it'll be marked up high enough for his time and efforts. Your local mechanic will be more than happy to undertake a complete service upon arrival for a fraction of the cost.

When we import a vehicle for you, you will only pay the necessary taxes on the cost of the vehicle, which leads to owning a vehicle with much higher resale value than what you have paid.

07. How much do I pay for this service and why?   Go to Top

Our service charge is $1800 CAD, this fee covers from vehicle selection process to customs clearance and full assistance to complete the registration of your vehicle. If you may choose to clear your vehicle by your self (which is not a rocket science anyway's), you would save another $300 CAD. This brings the service charge to only $1500 CAD.

If you import the vehicle for resale and intend regular importation using our service, we would work out appropriate package for you to be extremely competitive in your business, refer Partner Program. We encourage and support businesses and business minded individuals.

Why a service fee? from the time you decide on a JDM vehicle, we carefully hand pick only the best of the best vehicles available and send it your way for approval. As we can only import 15 yr old or older vehicles choosing the best out of the lot requires patience, practice and knowledge. Which is the most important part of the procedure, no matter how much you save if you do not buy the right vehicle you are not going to be happy. Secondly the whole process of importation will take minimum of 1 month up to 3 months of careful paper work, money transfers, organizing logistics etc. We do it all while you live your life in complete peace of mind. Not to mention after sales assistance and maintenance recommendation which ensures happy motoring.

08. I live in Alberta, will I be able to use your service?   Go to Top
Yes, we could send the vehicle directly to you, no matter where you live. The shipping cost will be altered to your destination and added to your invoice. All paper work will be completed and sent to you for registration.

09. Will I be asked to choose a vehicle from your Japanese dealer's inventory?   Go to Top
No, we do not believe in buying vehicles which are marked up in price and which limits your choice.

10. What is bidding, minimum / maximum bid price and successful / unsuccessful bid?   Go to Top

Bidding is the placing of a bid on a vehicle or an item offered at auction and is considered a binding contractual agreement to purchase. If a buyer is not prepared to conclude a transaction, then no bid or buy order should be placed by that individual. A bid is a formal proposal to buy at a specified price.

Minimum or starting bid is the amount the first bidder must offer. Maximum bid price is the maximum amount our agent representing your buy order would bid.

Unsuccessful bid is when someone else out bids your current bid and or your maximum bid. Successful or winning bid price is the final price the vehicle at the auction is sold. The successful bidder is in a contractual binding agreement to purchase the vehicle.

11. How safe is the shipping from Japan?   Go to Top
The shipping and handling is about 98% safe. The method of shipment is known as RoRo, meaning "roll on - roll off." The vehicle will be driven in and out the ship by its own power by dock workers. While this method is the most cost effective way, there might be rare incidents of stolen audio equipments, small scrapes etc. Don't be alarmed such occurrences are very rare, the vehicles are rolled in and out very methodically and the dock workers have enough experience driving various types of vehicles. *** We are currently shipping all vehicles by containers up to BC.

12. Do I have other shipping options?   Go to Top
Yes, for greater security, at additional cost, your vehicle can be shipped in a container. Most passenger cars will fit into a standard 20-foot container. Once your car is inside, the container will remain sealed until it arrives in Canada. We would recommend this for very rare and very expensive vehicle. If you consider this option let us know. *** We are currently shipping all vehicles by containers up to BC.

13. What is not covered in shipping insurance?   Go to Top

Personal effects, spare parts if shipped with the vehicle and audio equipments are not covered in the insurance. However if there is a substantial loss a claim could be filed with the local insurance agent. A total loss of vehicle is covered to the full insured amount.

14. How much will the shipping and insurance cost?   Go to Top

This information is described in the Cost Calculation page of this web site.

15. Other than choosing the car I like what other things I should worry about?   Go to Top

Once you choose the car from our "upcoming auction listing", we'll provide addition information on that particular vehicle, such as condition, grade, inspection notes etc. This information helps understand the condition of the vehicle and decide if you want to buy and your maximum bid price.

Once you let us know your decision to purchase and the maximum bid price, we will then confirm with our agent and arrange a physical inspection before the auction to make sure that the inspection report matches with the actual vehicle condition.

If everything goes well our agent will bid up to the maximum bid amount. In the event of a successfully bid you are required to make full payment within 3 business days. After your payment is remitted to our account the vehicle will be shipped to the port keeping it ready for the next available shipment to Canada. From this stage up to the vehicle arrival into Canada there's nothing you have to do.

16. Why should I pay a deposit to place a buy order on the car I like?   Go to Top

Deposit is required to process your buy order and to effectively secure the vehicle, because bidding and buying at the auction is a binding contract on our behalf. When we execute a buy order without a deposit and if the buyer decides to walk away from the deal, we are basically responsible for the entire cost of the vehicle.

As we deal with several major auction houses that conduct auctions almost every day, we have very little time from the time we send you the vehicle information to the actual auction date. Limited time from auction listing to the auction date, makes it impossible for you to send the deposit in time "after deciding on the vehicle".

Remember we are investing in you with trust, with a small deposit we are actually committing to buy a vehicle at the auction. In the event of a successful bid you would be informed immediately via email with the invoice for you to make immediate payment.

In the event you do not like any of the vehicle that we list and decide to withdraw from the buying process, your deposit will be refunded in full (100%).

17. Do I have full control over how much I pay for the car at the auction?   Go to Top

Yes, you can decide how much you are willing to pay for the car of your choice by presenting your maximum bid price (or total landed cost). You can make this decision with previous auction prices and the market value.

18. If I absolutely love the car, is it safe for me to present a high maximum bid price, to make sure I am the next owner and will your company disclose the actual auction price of the vehicle with proper proof?   Go to Top

Yes, time to time it is common to come across stunning vehicles with super low km's which looks brand new. Even though you are buying a 15 yrs old or older vehicle it doesn't mean that you cannot find vehicles with just 25,000 original Km's, most cars we consider importing generally have less than 100,000 original Km's. When you see your favorite vehicle in such exceptional condition you may want it at any cost, literally. In such a scenario you could advice us to bid much more than the average price range. Your maximum bid price as always would be kept confidential. You are completely safe doing that as our agent will only bid increments of approximately $30 USD (thirty dollars). The winning bid is the price you pay, which would be disclosed just like any other buy order.

19. What happens in the event of a unsuccessful bid, will my deposit be refunded?   Go to Top

In the event of a unsuccessful bid, we will continue to present auction vehicle information. Successful and unsuccessful bids are just part of the auction buying process. If another buyer is very aggressive on the vehicle you choose, after a point it may not be worth the money.

At any point (after unsuccessful bids) if you decide not to go further in the buying process, we'll be happy to refund your deposit, however bank transfer fees, currency exchange rate difference would be deducted. We will not deduct service charge or admin, search fee.

20. What will happen if I could not make the payment within 3 days after successful bid?   Go to Top

If we do not receive the full payment stated in the invoice, within 3 days / 36 hours you may loose your deposit and the vehicle. This is very important, whatever your circumstances may be payment terms must be complied for us to proceed with your vehicle.

21. How long will it take for the vehicle to reach Canada from the day it is bought?   Go to Top

It depends on shipping schedules to Canada and the shipping route. Once loaded on to the carrier, the shortest route takes 14 days to BC and the longest route take about 25 days. As a company we have very little control over the logistics part of the business. If there are delays try to understand the reason with patience.

22. Will you clear the vehicle at Canada Customs Port Authority?   Go to Top

Yes. We clear and transport vehicles to virtually any address in Canada.

23. Explain inspection & registration process in Canada?   Go to Top

Once the vehicle reaches Canadian customs, our agents will clear and complete importation procedures, including soil inspection and payment of all taxes like import duty and federal taxes (GST).

Upon customs clearance, the vehicle is ready for shipping to customer's respective location. We prepare all paper work for registration. Documents include Import Form 1, Original export certificate, translation of export certificate, translation validation by Japan Consulate and bill of sale.

Inspection & Registration: Once you receive the registration documents from us, you will need two other documents to complete registration. First one is safety standards certificate from your local workshop and the other is emissions test certificate. Both of these are required by most provinces to register any used vehicle.

As per Canadian federal law, vehicles that are 15 years old or older is exempt from all the traditional requirements that apply for newer vehicle imported from USA. Click here to visit Transport Canada web site.

In Ontario you may need a letter from the dealership confirming the vehicle's VIN number. A simple letter stating that the serial number is verified by physical inspection.

BC and MB: Even though 15 years old or older vehicles are exempt from restrictions by federal government, some provincial government are enforcing their own inspection and certification procedures. British Columbia and Manitoba have enforced similar rules.

PST / retail sales tax is paid while registering the vehicle in your province Ministry of Transportation just like registering any other used vehicle.
